Week 1

I chose Meads Quarry for my micro aquarium water source. Meads Quarry is located on Island homes avenue in Knox County Tennessee or N35 57.162 W83 51.960 880 for those of you planning to travel by air or GPS. This water is partly shaded and is boarded on one side by a large rock face.  I filled my aquarium around three fourths of the way full of water. In this water I made sure to collect small bits of sediment to line the bottom of the aquarium. Next, two small clippings of two separate plants were added.  First, (Plant A) Amblestegium sp. Moss was added to the aquarium it was collected from a natural spring at Carters Mill Park on Carter Mill Road in Knox County Tennessee or N36 01.168 W83 42.832 . It is a carnivorous plant. This was followed by the addition of (Plant B) Utricularia gibba L. It is a flowering plant. The original plant was collected from the south shore of Spain Lake (N 35o55 12.35" W088o20' 47.00), Camp Bella Air Road East of Sparta Tennessee in White Co. Then it was grown in water tanks outside of greenhouse at Hesler Biology Building on The University of Tennessee campus in Knox County, Knoxville Tennessee.
